Choosing a proposal writer
You should choose someone to conduct grants research and write grants for your organization or agency carefully. Here are some questions to consider when looking at outsourcing the grants research and grant writing function:
- What expertise is important to my organization/agency? Look for someone whose experience and/or background is relevant to what you do.
- Does the consultant propose a targeted, focused approach? Some grant writers favor the “throw enough out there and something will stick approach.” Not only does this not help you obtain the funding you need but it can damage your reputation among funders and diminish your chances of getting funded in the future.
- Does the consultant understand our organization/agency and understand what we do and/or what we want to do with the funding that we are seeking?
- Is the consultant qualified and can he or she provide references?
